Farmhut partners Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) to promote market linkages

FARMHUT, a hub connecting farmers with markets has partnered with the Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) to promote and advance farmers’ interests and welfare through representation, networking, information dissemination, capacity building, and the formation of commercially viable enterprises.

This comes weeks after Farmhut has received US $100 000 seed capital investment from the Hult Prize Foundation as a start-up grant meant to assist the organisation expand its services. As a result of the partnership, farmers will be able to tap into Farmhut’s value offering and services at discounted fees to reduce the marginalization gap and ensure that they reach sustainable production.

“It is our prerogative and mission to provide the best information services and technology that reach the many remote farmers. This partnership not only helps us realize that but accelerates the uptake of such technology,” Farmhut Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Ryan Katayi said in a statement.

Farmhut is one of the straight from the farm marketplace in Zimbabwe. It is an online platform whose mission is to disrupt the food supply systems across Africa. As an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered marketplace connecting farmers to markets that pay fair prices for their produce, Farmhut is also expanding on its product offering and user base.

The partnership will help to expand the farming industry in Zimbabwe and help farmers to adopt the new technologies in farming that is probably the new future.

“ZFU is happy to be in the partnership with Farmhut which is aimed at bridging the digital gap and addressing pertinent issues like market linkages, real-time information on markets and technical aspects, and most importantly predictive analytics on the markets which is now very important,” ZFU Commodities Executive, Simbarashe Muchena said.

ZFU is the largest farmers’ interest organization in Zimbabwe and it represents over a million farming households. The Union draws its membership from the following sub-sectors; communal, resettlement, small-scale commercial, peri-urban plot holders, emergent and large-scale commercial farmers.
