Philip Matarantika’s business advice to (a) aspiring entrepreneurs; (b) start-ups; (c) scaling up entrepreneurs and (d) diversifying entrepreneurs:A: For the first group, I would say that once you have an idea, you are good to go. As Alfred Bougeart postulates, the more an idea is developed, the more concise its expression becomes, the more a tree is pruned, the better the fruit. Keep going, each small step will take you towards your dreams, your goals and your targets.B: For start-ups, always be flexible and listen to the market. In that regard, the power of networking can not be overemphasised.C: As for scaling up entrepreneurs, always remember to take care of your customers. Do not let the excitement of growth take your humility away. Remember, the customer is always king, there is no you without them.D. I will end with the diversifying entrepreneurs. It’s like preaching to the converted, really. The world is changing and culture, by its nature, is highly dynamic, and as such, people and businesses alike must adapt and change to suit whichever environment they find themselves in.Extracted from the November 2022 issue of The Entrepreneurial Magazine www.entremag.co.zw/magazine ... Of starting young and yet making it big, so big in entrepreneurship.Tatenda Samaz Samukange (28) is the founder and CEO of Skylake Drilling, a company that started in borehole drilling and now has diversified to other drilling serviced (Mining Drilling, Construction Drilling etc.)Skylake Drilling was established in 2016, when its founder was around 23 years old. In an interview with The Entrepreneurial Magazine in June 2022, ( www.entremag.co.zw/magazine ) he cited grit and passion as key enablers of his establishment. He further cited integrity, innovation, social responsibility, professionalism, and accountability as key pillars that has kept Skylake upright and unshaken. The following have also been key drivers in Tatenda’s success:Creativity, innovation, diligence, and leadership: “My top four skills would be creativity, innovation, and diligence. Above all one needs to be a leader, who grows, knows, and shows the way.” Online presence: “Never underestimate the power of having a formidable and ‘out there’ online presence… it was during this pandemic we hired our first-ever fully dedicated Marketing personnel and what I can say is the face and image of the company saw an incredible shift because of that,”Performance review: It is on the spotlight that performance review is a “necessary evil,” as such, Samukange believes that conducting them regularly is a technique to stay on the top.Having a pool of older subordinates: Sacrifices: “I have sadly not had the proverbial ‘enjoyment of my youth’ yet as I have had to enormously cut my social life and even time with family and close friends in a bid to grow and FOCUS on the business but I am now slowly catching up, so wish me luck,” he added.Inspiration from other entrepreneurs: “I look very close to home a lot and consider the legendary Strive Masiyiwa, Executive Chairman and Founder of Econet Wireless to be a great inspiration to me, everyone who knows me is aware that goes without saying,” he stated.Lastly he had a message to our readers, “My favourite message to ANYONE, notwithstanding even those who look up to me and have aspirations to be running a successful business is, ‘Learn to appreciate life, don’t be greedy, and be humble,”An extract from the June 2022 Issue of The Entrepreneurial Magazine. ... Of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As), here is Nigel M. K Chanakira had to say:“Merging with Meikles provided Kingdom with access to 60 supermarkets, effectively increasing their branch network from 30 to 90, and the partnership also injected $12 million of capital into our balance sheet.”Having been personally involved in more than 40 mergers and acquisitions, Chanakira gained comprehensive insight into the intricacies of these transactions, encompassing the good, the bad, and the ugly. “I've learnt that it is important to merge with individuals who share a deep understanding of your history while also comprehending your vision for the future. “Conducting thorough due diligence is paramount to mitigate risks and ensure a successful merger. However, it is crucial to remain vigilant, especially when dealing with more prominent players, as they can overpower smaller entities, particularly during disagreements. “Unfortunately, I experienced this first hand as the junior partner, resulting in the unfortunate loss of the capital I needed. Thankfully, upon exiting the bank, I had the opportunity to take the bank with me by immediately pursuing a demerger. “The scars and trophies I have accumulated throughout my journey have equipped me with the necessary expertise to guide individuals through the complexities of mergers and acquisitions.”You can download the November 2023 Issue on the link below:www.entremag.co.zw/magazine ...
